Historic Settlement: Compensation Claims Process Now Open

By March 11, 2025No Comments

The Assembly of First Nations has announced that the claims process is now open for a historic settlement aimed at addressing long-standing discrimination in the First Nations Child and Family Services Program. This settlement, totaling over $23 billion, recognizes the harm caused by discriminatory policies and practices.

Eligible First Nations individuals—including those removed from their homes as children between April 1, 1991, and March 31, 2022—along with their caregiving parents or grandparents, may be entitled to compensation. Tl’azt’en Nation members who believe they might be affected are encouraged to learn more and consider applying.

For additional details and support, including trauma-informed assistance through the Claims Helpers, please visit www.fnchildclaims.ca or call 1-833-852-0755. This is an important step toward healing and accountability, and we stand with you as we move forward together.

We are currently working with a regional coordinator to have them come to the community, for a presentation and information session on the claims process.
